TIGER ZIP + 4®

Definition:

TIGER ZIP + 4®, or a Topological Integrated Geographic Encoding and Reference/ZIP + 4® file, is a tool that combines United States Census Bureau TIGER files and USPS® ZIP + 4® data to provide valuable location identification information such as latitude and longitude coordinates, down to the nearest intersection, for a given address.

The main benefit of TIGER ZIP + 4®, is that it allows mailers to link their Zip +4® addresses to the U.S. Census data. In most cases this data set gives exact lat/long coordinates down to the accuracy of the ZIP + 4®. Latitude and longitude lines are especially helpful in verifying addresses on both the front-end and the back-end.
