Data usage is evolving, but so are data quality tools and users

Thomas Schutz

Over the past few years, we at Experian have seen a big shift in data usage. Businesses are learning how to truly unlock the power of data to better serve their clients. But the data usage itself isn’t the only thing evolving. The users of data and the tools used to support their efforts are also changing.

Last week, the 2016 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools was issued. There has been a lot of movement in the space in general over the past 12 months, but we also saw significant change in terms of who is demanding data quality technology and what they want from a vendor.

In my conversations with Gartner analysts, we have discussed the desire for data quality tools within lines of business rather than simply IT. We see this often within our own customer base, individuals looking for more control over the data they use within their own departments or business lines.

That trend is changing market dynamics. Businesses looking to leverage data quality tools no longer want a laundry list of capabilities; they want solutions to larger business problems. Companies want partners that can help them identify the right set of tools for their environment, and more importantly, provide tools that can provide value quickly.

At Experian Data Quality, we believe in empowering business users and improving their ability to get value from data. We offer easy-to-implement, easy-to-use tools that are designed to help businesses maximize their data insight and build trust in their information. We focus on providing tools that enable data insight, contact data validation, a complete customer view, information governance, data preparation and much more.  We have felt this is the best way to serve our clients for some time, but now we see that philosophy reinforced by analyst insight.

We are proud of once again being named a ‘Challenger’ in Gartner’s 2016 Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools. This placement highlights the work we have been doing to meet the changing needs of our clients and to help them champion data quality within their business.

We look forward to continuing to build strong data management solutions for years to come, always listening to our customers and developing solutions for their critical data initiatives.
